SUMMARY:Training - Being an Emotional Container
DESCRIPTION:Being an Emotional Container\n\nChildren who have been throu
 gh trauma may not have developed the skills to understand\, express\, an
 d manage their emotions. They may feel overwhelmed by their feelings\, p
 articularly in the face of new stresses\, strange situations\, and traum
 a reminders\; and act out as a result. When we respond calmly and suppor
 tively to these behaviors\, we show children that we can handle their em
 otions\, no matter how big they get. Once we are able to do that\, we ca
 n teach them how to handle those emotions too. Being an emotional contai
 ner is a strategy about helping children regain control of their emotion
 s and behaviors when they aren’t able to do it by themselves. \n\n\nPr
 esented by: Central Maine Youth Trauma Initiative (CMYTI)\, a National C
 hild Traumatic Stress Network grant-funded project of  MaineGeneral Med
 ical Center’s Edmund Ervin Pediatric Center is offering four online Re
 source Parent/Kinship Caregiver trainings. The trainings are free and co
 unt toward relicensing education hours. Each training is scheduled for 9
 0 minutes to allow for 60 minutes of training\, and 30 minutes of discus
 sion/networking for those who are interested.\n\n\nTo register\, please
